Exercise-induced fluid shifts are distinct to exercise mode and intensity: a comparison of blood flow-restricted and free-flow resistance exercise

نویسندگان

چکیده

Using muscle functional MRI (mfMRI), this study was able to differentiate the acute physiological responses following three established hypertrophic resistance exercise strategies. Low-load protocols performed failure, with or without blood flow restriction, resulted in larger changes R 2 (i.e. greater T -shifts) a slow rate of return baseline indicative myocellular fluid shifts. These data were cross evaluated interleaved measures macrovascular flow, water diffusion, sectional area macroscopic swelling), and intracellular fraction measured using MRI.

Blood Flow Restricted Exercise and Vascular Function

It is established that regular aerobic training improves vascular function, for example, endothelium-dependent vasodilatation and arterial stiffness or compliance and thereby constitutes a preventative measure against cardiovascular disease. In contrast, high-intensity resistance training impairs vascular function, while the influence of moderate-intensity resistance training on vascular functi...

Methodological considerations for blood flow restricted resistance exercise

“KAATSU Training”, was first made available for public use in Japan.1 Since then, numerous studies have examined the effects of BFR resistance exercise on skeletal muscle hypertrophy and strength gains, as well as on neural, endocrine, and cardiovascular responses. The novelty of BFR resistance exercise is that relatively low exercise intensities (e.g. 20% of one-repetition maximum, 1-RM) can b...

Exercise and blood flow restriction.

A growing body of research has demonstrated the effectiveness of exercise (low-intensity resistance training, walking, cycling) combined with blood flow restriction (BFR) for increased muscular strength and hypertrophy. The BFR is achieved via the application of external pressure over the proximal portion of the upper or lower extremities. The external pressure applied is sufficient to maintain...

Acute Cardiovascular and Hemodynamic Responses to Low Intensity Eccentric Resistance Exercise with Blood Flow Restriction

BACKGROUND Recently it has been suggested that low intensity (LI) resistance exercise (RE) alone or in combination with blood flow restriction (BFR) can be applied for cardiovascular function improvement or rehabilitation. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to investigate the acute effects of LI eccentric RE with and without BFR on heart rate (HR), rate pressure product (RPP), blood ...

Hormone responses to an acute bout of low intensity blood flow restricted resistance exercise in college-aged females.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the acute hormone response to exercise differed between low intensity blood flow restricted resistance exercise and traditional high-intensity resistance exercise in college-aged women. A total of 13 healthy women (aged 18-25 yrs), who were taking oral contraceptives, volunteered for this randomized crossover study. Subjects performed a session...
